2011 Conference: Red Pencil in the Woods

The Northwest Independent Editors Guild is committed to ongoing education and professional development. We also value opportunities for networking and camaraderie. One way we pursue these goals is by presenting a day-long conference for editors and other word lovers approximately every two years.

Conference Sessions and Handouts

The theme of Red Pencil in the Woods, the Guild’s third biennial conference, was “educate, connect, and inspire.” The keynote speech, “Finding Our Way: Writing and Editing in the New Publishing Landscape,” was delivered by author and editor Carol Fisher Saller, who headed up the copyediting team for the latest edition of The Chicago Manual of Style. The opening session was followed by a series of hour-long breakout sessions and a discussion group led by editing/publishing/marketing experts from around the Northwest. Topics included:
