My specialty is helping people and organizations find their voice. I've co-authored 36 books (travel, psychology, humor) and have 15+ years of experience as a copyeditor, developmental editor and writing coach/teacher.
My unique coaching and developmental editing methodology draws upon my background in journalism and humor (standup comedy and Improv). While the physical act of writing may happen on the top layer, I like to lovingly dig about 2-5 layers deeper to find the insights and passion that make you or your organization *want* to write. If you're having trouble expressing your authentic self -- whether that be in a book, a my-life-depends-on-this essay or article, or as an organization or company -- and you want to have a little fun finding your voice, well, that's about when you'd want to hire me.
Before getting my master's degree in journalism from UC Berkeley in 2002, I worked in corporate communications and as a magazine editor. Since grad school, I've taught and coached writing to over 200 clients, interns and employees, and students; I've co-authored 35 books for Lonely Planet and one with the co-founder of The Onion (Trump's America); I've done developmental editing on over 100 essays, articles, travel adventure books, and memoirs. I can also set up or manage editorial departments; I worked as Editorial Director for Trip.com for four years in Silicon Valley and as Executive Editorial Director for a startup in London for one.
