My name is Jessyca Yoppolo and I am a full-time freelance editor specializing in sci-fi and fantasy novels and YA fiction books. I can help with copyediting, or making sure writing has correct grammar and consistent style. I have experience in all levels of editing, but developmental editing is where I shine. Developmental editing is a big-picture workshopping process to open doors for an author to all the "what ifs" rather than correcting the text. My goal is to give my authors ideas for what they could be writing, not what they "should" be writing. In my editing, I strive to give honest and clear feedback so authors can develop writing that says what they intend it to say. I try to help authors grow naturally to their full potential.
I graduated cum laude from the University of Washington Tacoma with a BA in Arts, Media & Culture. I went on to the University of Washington's Editing Certificate program to work on my craft. I also participated in the Author-Editor Clinic to gain an in-depth understanding of developmental editing. I have since worked on magazines and short essays, practicing all levels of editing, including developmental editing, line editing (editing whole sentences), copyediting, and proofreading.
I spend most of my time consuming and critiquing various media such as books, films, and anime because I'm fascinated with the storytelling process and I think every story can be better. My favorite anime are My Hero Academia, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. My favorite fantasy author is Robin Hobb. I hope to become your editor friend.
